Does Marriage Make Us More Alike? Research says “No”

Conventional wisdom suggests that spending a lot of time together in a marriage leads to people adopting some of each other’s personality traits, and that over time couples become increasingly alike.

This is questioned by a research report published in the current issue of the journal Personality and Individual Differences. Conducted at Michigan State University and the University of Minnesota, the finding are based on a study of 1,296 couples who have been married for an average of 19.8 years.
