BBC2 mental health season

October 15, 2008

These upcoming programmes look interesting. Let’s hope that they help dispel some of the stigma associated with mental health problems and encourage some people to seek the help they need.

A trio of BBC2 documentaries about mental health will see Michael Portillo examine youth suicide, Terry Pratchett discuss Alzheimer's disease and Meera Syal look at self-harm.

The trio are making the programmes as part of Headroom, the BBC's two-year mental health and wellbeing campaign.

Headroom has already featured Griff Rhys Jones charting his anger issues in Losing It and Cracking Up: Alastair Campbell on Breakdown, which aired last night and showed the former spin doctor talking about his nervous breakdown in 1986.

Headroom is part of a BBC campaign to raise awareness of the importance of good mental health and de-stigmatise the problems surrounding mental illness.
